Could have been something great..
by juring
it wasn't that bad. But it wasn't that good either.
Actually, in the first half of movie, it went on very well. Everything is really fine and I was really impressed. The best of all is story telling, it was just very good. You really want to follow the story. It was very well told movie.
In the second half however, I couldn't believe it was the same one who wrote the first half of movie. The main problem is it started lost the point. And you start to think it's overlong. Imagine you're listening an old guy talking but you have no idea what is he talking about and wish that he could stop talking any soon.
It's pity that this movie could have been something great. Everything supports it to be so. You've got everything here; fabulous production work (beautiful camera work is the most impressive thing), performances from all casts were just terrific (I feel pity for Reese Witherspoon along with Eileen Atkins, she has done a great job here, an Oscar worthy, I must say).
About Mira Nair's direction? I found it while not totally bad, still pretty average. I really don't like how she has movie in Indian tone that much.
Overall, this movie is pitifully forgettable...
