The film is an epic tale about love and war set in the Italian occupation of Green during World War II. Captain Antonio Corelli (Nicolas Cage) and his soldiers arrive on the island of Cephallonia, where Antonio falls in love with the village doctor's daughter, Pelagia (Penelope Cruz). Pelagia's fiancee is a local fisherman heading off to war and now Antonio begins to question his reasons for fighting.
