Dr. Jerry Peyser's (Albert Brooks) daughter Melissa (Lindsay Sloane) is about to marry her boyfriend Mark (Ryan Reynolds) but when he meets Mark's father, Steve Tobias (Micheal Douglas), things start getting complicated. Steve is actually a CIA agent and currently on a mission to take down an international smuggler who is interested in a russian submarine, and Jerry gets sucked into the mission after he sees Steve fighting a gunmen in the restaurant washroom.
