The film is set in Quebec during the mid-18th Century, at a time when England and France are fighting over the control of Canada. François Le Gardeur (David La Haye) is an adventurous young man who has returned from a hunting trip, only to find his father has passed. Soon after, he falls in love and marries 14 year-old Marie-Loup (Noemie Godin-Vigneau), but their union is separated by parish priest Father Blondeau (Gerard Depardieu).
