In Havana, Cuba, Jorgito (Jorgito Milo Avila) and Malu (Malu Tarrao Broche) are neighbours, classmates and best friends, even though their families hate each other. Malu's mother is divorced, religious, rich and snobbish. Jorgito's parents are socialists, poor and very strict. None of those differences affect the children's friendship.When Malu's grandmother dies, her mother decides to go live abroad - a tragedy for Malu and Jorgito. Only one person can save their friendship: Malu's father, a lighthouse-keeper who lives hundreds of miles away. The children decide to travel secretly to find him and convince him not to sign the forms that would allow Malu to leave Cuba. Chased by the police and their parents, Malu and Jorgito cross the island by train, bus, car, motorcycle and on foot experiencing strange and thrilling adventures.
